MetLife Now Requires Court to Approve Settlement Regardless of State Law
MetLife announced today that effective July 31, 2018 it now requires a court order on all structured settlements for minors. MetLife states that it will not accept structured settlements for minors if the settlement has not been court-approved, regardless of any state statute granting the exemption from court approval.
MetLife underwrites structured settlement annuities through two subsidiaries. Metropolitan Tower Life Insurance Company is the primary underwriting company. Metropolitan Life Insurance Company is the other.
